Beth & Dan Schupp
Beth & Dan are the current owners and operators of The Barn at Five Lakes. The resort has been in Beth’s family since her parents purchased it in 1976. The Barn was originally supposed to house Dan’s many horses (he had 12 at one time!) but alas, it became a premier event venue instead. Now Dan’s horses (he’s down to two) get to live in the rolling pastures surrounding The Barn. Beth & Dan live in cabin 8 during the winter, while the resort offices occupy The Barn. They live at Fair Hills Resort in the summer. Beth & Dan have six children, 13 grandchildren and one dog, Millie!
Lisa is part of the owning family and is Beth’s sister. She is the on-site manager and lives in cabin 7. Lisa knows The Barn and Five Lakes like the back of her hand. She hikes and kayaks almost daily during the summer. She knows where to find the fish, eagles’ nests, beaver dams and deer all across the resort grounds. Lisa is also the on-site event director for The Barn. She manages the staff, organizes the set-up, catering, clean-up and even cooks steaks on the grill. She is the “Jill-of-all-trades” of The Barn. In the winter, when we are closed, Lisa enjoys visiting warm Florida!
It’s difficult to say when Marlette first started working here. She has always been hanging around Fair Hills and Five Lakes Resort as Lisa’s best friend, so we finally decided to put her to work. Marlette is our wedding venue coordinator for The Barn at Five Lakes. She works with the couples to help plan the perfect venue for their wedding. Marlette is a former special ed teacher and lives in Vergas, MN. She also used to own the Quiet Cricket eclectic gift shop in Vergas, but has recently sold the business and is enjoying “retirement.” When not planning weddings, Marlette enjoys spending time with her daughters, Emma & Sydney, who have both worked at Fair Hills and her granddaughter Charley!
Liz is the newest member of our team. She worked as a front desk intern at Fair Hills Resort in 2019 and joined our staff full time in the spring of 2020. Liz hails from Sunburg, MN and graduated from the University of Wisconsin Stout in May 2020 with a degree in Hotel, Restaurant & Tourism Management. Liz is our Groups Director, Big Pelican Coordinator and Wedding Venue Coordinator. If you come to Five Lakes for a Corporate Event, Retreat or Meeting, Liz will take care of you!
Caitlin is the general manager of Fair Hills & Five Lakes Resort and focuses on reservations and human resources. She started working at Fair Hills as a store girl in 2004, but she has been a guest at the resort since 1986. Originally from Mt. Prospect, IL, she graduated from Ohio State University with a degree in finance. Caitlin got married on August 3, 2013, and her and her wife, Gretchen, have two sets of twins: Jack & Miles age 5, and Rory & Finn age 1. Along with their two dogs, they live on nearby Hook Lake!
Emily Schupp Meyers
Emily is our creative director and is in charge of marketing, advertising, social media and all things visual. Do you follow us on Facebook, Twitter or Instagram?! You should because Emily is always posting something new and exciting. Emily grew up visiting the resort, but she didn’t start working at the resort full-time until the last few years. She graduated from the University of St. Thomas and spent several years working in the Twin Cities before moving up to Detroit Lakes permanently. Emily married former Fair Hills staff, and Pelican Lake resident, Patrick Meyers on October 6, 2012. They have two daughters, Wilhelmina age 5 and Ingrid age 3.
Tammy is our head housekeeper at Five Lakes Resort. She takes care of the cabins and our overnight guests. Tammy started at Fair Hills and worked her way up to managing Five Lakes Resort; she also helps out with events at the Barn in the kitchen. Tammy resides in Lake Park, MN, with her husband and kids.
